Transport
Getting around Lancashire should be simple, reliable and affordable. Whether it’s travelling to work, college, health appointments or to see family, transport connects people and keeps our county moving.
The Lancashire Combined County Authority is leading work to plan for a transport system that works better for residents and businesses. We’re coordinating partners across local government, operators and national agencies to prepare a shared approach for future investment and improvement.
Developing the Joint Lancashire Transport Plan
We’re currently developing the Joint Lancashire Transport Plan, which is currently out for consultation. This new framework will guide how Lancashire’s transport network evolves over the coming years. Setting priorities for public transport, roads, active travel and sustainable infrastructure.
The plan will help shape investment and make sure that future decisions are based on clear evidence and shared priorities. It will align closely with the Lancashire Growth Plan and the county’s skills and employment plan, so that transport supports economic opportunity, access to education and inclusive growth.
Connecting people and places
Lancashire is a large and diverse county. Some areas are well connected, while others face challenges in reaching work, training or key services.
We’re working with partners to identify where improvements can make the biggest difference. From better bus reliability and rail access to safer routes for walking and cycling.
Our role is to make sure plans are joined up and reflect what residents and businesses need most, so that transport investment supports local priorities and strengthens communities.
Making travel easier and fairer
Good transport should be straightforward to use and fair in cost. We’re supporting work to improve coordination between bus and rail services, simplify ticketing and make information clearer for passengers.
We’re also helping local partners explore options for integrated transport systems that connect towns, employment sites and new housing areas more effectively.
These improvements will support the Lancashire Growth Plan by improving access to jobs, training and services across the county.
Planning for cleaner, future-ready travel
Lancashire is preparing for a cleaner and more efficient transport system. The Combined County Authority is helping to plan for improved bus fleets and better walking and cycling options.
This supports local and national goals to reduce congestion and emissions, while improving air quality and quality of life for residents.
Our focus is practical: helping partners plan ahead and making sure the county is ready to benefit from future investment.
